7. Adding and managing comments
Adding comments:
To add a comment on another blog, look for the ‘comments’ link, which will be either at the very top or the very bottom of the post, depending on the page layout. It will say how many comments have currently been added. You then get a comment box, where you have to enter your name and email address (the email won’t be displayed – use the one you put in when you created your blog). Your comment won’t appear immediately, as it will need to be moderated by the blog owner.
Moderating comments:
You can moderate comments left on your blog in 2 ways. An eamil will be sent to you, letting you know that a comment has been left, so you can click on the link given in the email to approve it.
Alternatively (and much more easily if you expect a lot of comments to come in at once), go to site admin and then click comments in the top menu bar. You will then see a list of comments to be moderated, and you can select to approve, edit, delete or ’spam’ them. A list of how many unmoderated comments you have will appear on the right hand side of the dashboard screen when you first log in.
Comment options:
You will need to decide how to manage comments as they are posted and to do this, go to options in the top menu bar. Then select discussion in the smaller menu that appears below it, and you will be given a range of options for managing comments. The options shown below are particularly important – you have 3 options for what will happen when someone posts a comment. If using blogs with a large number of lower school students, I recommend checking all 3 boxes. If using them with older students, or students you feel are particularly trustworthy, you could leave the top box unchecked, as below. I recommend checking the bottom 2 at least.
