Today’s session

In today’s session, we want you to become more comfortable with the main features of the blog, so you can go away and set things up on your own.

By the end of the session, we’d like you to have:

  • Customised the look of your blog if you haven’t already done so
  • Written a post
  • Added a useful link to your site
  • Uploaded a picture or video to your post

Extension activity!  Visit someone else’s blog (via the links on this site) and post a comment on their first post…

Instructions for all these things are on this site – use thelinks on the right or the big tab at the top (’setting up and managing your blog’).

I’ve just reorganised the links on the right, so all your new blogs are up there, in a separate column from what I’ve called the ‘existing blogs’.  So you can look at the established blogs for ideas, but also link to each other’s to see where you’ve got to as you start to develop them.

I’ve also put the tutorial pages in numerical order – obviously you don’t have to look at them in that order, but it might be helpful if you’re not sure where to start!  Those of you who were at the first session have all done step 1 and have mostly done some or all of step 2.  The rest is all ready to explore!

The second session on 27th March will be looking at how to use blogs with students – the logistics of setting it all up as well as general ideas.  It will also be a troubleshooting session, so try to do some more on the blogs before then, so you can come to us with any problems you’re having…

Welcome!

This blog is currently still a work in progress, but the aim is that it will include instructions for most of the key things needed to set yourself and students up with a blog.  Please post comments on this message, any other messages, or the relevant pages asking for more information if needed.  We’re also hoping to set a forum up here for your questions and concerns.

In order not to reinvent the wheel too much, we also refer you to this amazing blog, run by edublogs itself:

http://theedublogger.edublogs.org/

It has loads of useful tips and videos on using various features of blogs.

We’re only scratching the surface of how to use blogs, so once you’re all set up, we’ll add you as contributors to this blog, and then you can add posts on things you’ve discovered.  For now, just do this via comments on our posts.
